Safeway Industries, Incorporated was founded in 1980 by Scott and Tim Meinerz.
The original location during their first year of business was a tiny basement rented in a building
on Buffum Street in Milwaukee, WI. When these facilities became too cramped, the
brothers moved their business out to some rented space in a building on 31st Street in
1981. Business prospered in the next couple of years as soon became time for a second
move. In September 1985, an old vacant noodle factory was purchased at 3372 North
Holton Street on Milwaukee's Northeast side. The slow process of building conversion and
moving had begun.
It was at this time that Tim Meinerz had decided to sell his interest in the company to his
brother Scott. The moving processing was converted for Manufacturing of Dairy Cleaners
and Sanitizers. More employees were added, and Safeway began diversifying its markets.
By mid 1988, Safeway had begun negotiations to purchase the dairy cleaning product
division of BIO LAB, INC. of Atlanta Georgia. The deal was finalized by July of 1988. Full
scale production of the BioGuard Line of products began in December of that year.
The
BIO LAB, INC purchase virtually doubled Safeway's size and production output. A massive
upgrading and reorganization of mixing, warehousing, and production facilities was
completed by mid 1989 to accommodate the increase volume. With this expansion, the
decision to take the trucking division of Safeway and incorporate it as a contract carrier;
Mega-Way Freight Systems, Inc.
